LOYALTY RATES

Compliance during an episode of care of physical therapy is extremely important for both the therapist and the patient. Research shows that, in order for the patient to achieve lasting results, a patient needs to participate in at least two physical therapy sessions each week. This consistent schedule allows the therapist to accurately track patient progress and plan/modify treatment sessions properly in order to provide the best care. At Howl Sport & Spine, the goal is not keep patients returning for physical therapy years and years but to have them complete a full episode of care (preferably before onset of noticeable pain or limitations) in order to decrease the patients’ risk of future injury and functional limitations. Doing this will allow patients to develop a full understanding of how their joints and muscles are currently moving and stabilizing, to learn how to monitor their bodies for changes and recognize potential risk factors, to correct and/or improve any noted inefficiencies, and to learn the best techniques for independently maintaining these improvements in order to decrease the risk and/or progression of functional decline.

In order to show appreciation to patients who remain compliant during an episode of care, loyalty rates are available for physical therapy visits. The term ‘compliant’ refers to patients who maintain the following history: no record of no shows, no excessive 15min+ late arrivals (more than 2 visits), no cancellation of appointments (unless rescheduled for a time slot in the same week), no lapse in appointments exceeding one week. If a patient does not remain compliant for any reason, any discount and/or loyalty rates for future physical therapy visits will become void.

CASH-BASED VS. INSURANCE-BASED

I can still provide receipts with the codes needed to send in self- claims to your insurance company. Depending on the plan, many patients receive some level of reimbursement or have the costs of treatments applied to their deductible.

Howl Sport & Spine is a cashed-based (self-pay) practice.  You may also hear this referred to as fee-for-service practice. Being a cash-based practice allows me to provide my patients with the best, most ethical, and most individualized care while still keeping my doors open.  Insurance companies only reimburse PT companies about half of what is billed. In my experience, in order for those insurance-based companies to stay profitable, they limit their therapists' one-on-one time with patients to no more than 15-20 minutes and pressure them to let PT techs/aides provide care for the remainder of the session.  They do this to allow as many patients to be scheduled per hour as possible to increase revenue.  In short, the patients end up getting what they pay for which, is those situations, is not much.

At Howl Sport & Spine, I spend the full session, every session providing one-on-one care.  I perform manual (hands-on) treatment for the majority of the session, provide and update individualized home exercise programs, and provide direct instruction, assistance, and/or feedback during any additional exercises or activities. I do not have patients pay to do things in the clinic that they can do on their own and do not allow any other unethical care to take place.   Between the full hour+ of one-on-one time I dedicate to my patients and the effectiveness of the treatments I provide, my patients usually reach the finish line in less than half the visits it would take at an insurance-based clinic.

With the time savings of fewer clinic visits and the value of feeling better so much sooner, most patients feel that the out-of-pocket expense is more than worth it. I can still provide receipts with the codes needed to send in self- claims to your insurance company if you wish. Depending on the plan, many patients receive some level of reimbursement or have the costs of treatments applied to their deductible.
